Area Sales Engineer

We are looking for a commercially minded Area Sales Engineer who can create opportunities selling a wide range of street furniture, exterior lighting products and solutions to support our revenue targets. Our customers consist of Local Authorities, Contractors, Developers, Architects and Electrical Wholesalers. Covering the North East of England and Scotland you will be based from home for the greatest area coverage, with regular visits to our Head Office and factory in Andover, Hampshire. You will be passionate about customer engagement and building long term business relationships to develop current business activities but more importantly, have the enthusiasm and drive to grow turnover with new business.

Our British designed and manufactured award-winning products include a Heritage lighting range and Cast columns, decorative street lighting bracketry, traffic bollards and a host of other products. We are much more than a one stop shop; with our in-house design and engineering teams we can modify standard products to suit precise customer requirements and develop bespoke architectural designs for prodigious developments.

You will possess an Engineering and/or Street Lighting background and must have great attention to detail, resourcefulness, and drive.

Department: Sales

Location: Based from home topographically placed for ideal defined area coverage

Reports to: Commercial Sales Manager

Job Purpose

To pro-actively and efficiently grow our company product sales and customer base within a given defined sales area in line with agreed targets and margins of return.

Main Duties

  • Deliver overall sales revenue targets for your region
  • Deliver sales revenue per account in line with the annual sales plan
  • Develop new customers and opportunities for our manufacturing capabilities
  • Evaluate sales revenue per account, highlight potential shortfalls and deliver solutions to maintain targets
  • Report competitor activity, market price changes and keep up to date with the latest economic and funding policies which may impact the delivery of annual revenue plans
  • Contribute to the company’s on-going marketing activities through taking photographs of products in situ, obtaining copies of competitor activity, suggesting new topics for email campaigns
  • Take responsibility for client tenders and price requests, producing timely and quality responses and ensuring the business opportunity is converted.
  • Evaluate and propose new products and markets that the company can investigate and develop
  • Attend exhibitions, conferences, and association meetings where appropriate

General Duties

  • Comply with internal processes for new product development, pricing, and tendering
  • Actively maintain and support the required databases: Outlook showing weekly movements and scheduled meetings, Pipedrive CRM system entering information as defined by the Commercial Sales Manager
  • Represent the business in a professional, helpful, and friendly manner.
  • Deliver product demonstrations and provide client feedback to the business
  • Understand and research clients and potential clients to be able to demonstrate how business can be most successfully developed
  • Look for, discover, and propose new clients who have a requirement that can be fulfilled by the company’s manufacturing and internal skill base
  • Update job knowledge by participating in industry events and forums

Skills & Qualifications

Required:

  • Proven commercial awareness and negotiating skills
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a customer engagement role with proven track record
  • Clear and precise communications skills, covering all aspects of verbal, written, remote or face to face activity
  • Ability to interact effectively at all levels of the organisation and with client businesses
  • An engineering interest that can be quickly developed to facilitate engagement with customers
  • Ability to interpret drawings and specifications to achieve “right first time” customer response
  • Competent in core IT applications (Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook, managing and maintaining CRM systems)
  • Full UK Drivers Licence

Desirable:

  • Specific industry knowledge
  • Knowledge of tendering processes and project management in a contracting environment
  • GCSE in Maths, English Language and at least three other subjects one of them engineering based
